Project 75: Bringing Joy to Every Step – Bolivia
For the first time, Mite’s Giving Community is working in South America! Since 2016, our recurring partner, MiracleFeet, has been running their clubfoot treatment program in Bolivia—but their team in that country faces a unique challenge.
Bolivia has a more structured healthcare system than many of the 37 countries where MiracleFeet works, with public hospitals, specialized clinics, and national health programs already in place. Even with this foundation, access to care remains out of reach for many families, especially those in rural and indigenous communities.
Barriers like distance, cost, and gaps in staffing and infrastructure make it difficult to access specialized treatment like clubfoot care. For many families, the care their child needs exists, but remains beyond their access.
Clubfoot is a common condition present at birth that causes one or both feet to turn inward and upward, making walking difficult. Left untreated, it worsens over time and can lead to lifelong disability. But with the Ponseti method—a simple, low-cost treatment—up to 95% of children can grow up with full mobility, able to walk, run, and live without pain.
Each year, an estimated 327 children are born with clubfoot in Bolivia, yet the program is currently reaching only about 12% of those who need treatment. The need is still greater than the reach, and most children are growing up without access to care that could completely change the course of their lives.
For Project 75: Bringing Joy to Every Step, Mite’s Giving Community will join MiracleFeet’s work in Bolivia to begin closing this gap by supporting the opening of a new clinic in the Potosí region, expanding treatment to 78 new children each year, and strengthening the quality of care through provider training. This project will also help remove barriers for families by providing transportation assistance, raising awareness, and improving early detection so children can begin treatment as early as possible.
By giving today, you’re helping ensure a child’s future is defined by the steps they take, not the limitations they face.
