Project 68: Little Steps, Big Futures - Nigeria
In Nigeria, more than 10,000 children are born with clubfoot every year—more than any other country where our partner, MiracleFeet, works. Clubfoot is a common congenital condition that causes the feet to turn inward and upward, making walking difficult and often impossible. Left untreated, it does not improve on its own; instead, it worsens with age, limiting mobility and opportunities. Without treatment, these children face a lifetime of disability, pain, and social exclusion.
Today, MiracleFeet supports 62 Nigerian clinics, providing free, high-quality treatment using the Ponseti method—the gold standard for correcting clubfoot. This simple, cost-effective intervention restores full functionality in 95% of cases, giving children the best possible outcome: two forward-functioning feet.
But access to treatment is only part of the solution. Many families in Nigeria cannot afford the cost of transportation to and from clinic visits, preventing children from receiving the care they need. To ensure cost is never a barrier, MiracleFeet also provides financial assistance for travel, reducing dropout rates and making clubfoot treatment accessible to every family.
Out of the 10,000 new cases each year, only about 10% of these children are currently able to receive treatment. Expanding MiracleFeet’s Nigeria program has become a top priority in addressing this urgent medical need. This year, MiracleFeet aims to enroll 2,080 new patients, establish 19 additional clinics, and expand nationwide coverage to 13%.
For Project 68, Mite's donor community will support MiracleFeet’s Nigeria program operations—including treatments, braces, travel support, and clinic expansions—bringing life-changing mobility to thousands of children. Together, we're creating a future where no child in Nigeria suffers from untreated clubfoot.
