Project 65: Hurricane Helene Relief - North Carolina
Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm, made landfall in the Southeastern United States on September 26th, 2024. Several states, including Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Virginia, were left reeling in the wake of the storm's devastation. As of October 3rd, there have been 215 confirmed deaths, with hundreds more still unaccounted for as search and rescue missions continue.
Our home state of North Carolina was hit particularly hard, accounting for half of the hurricane's casualties and suffering historic levels of infrastructure damage. The force of the storm was unexpected in Appalachian mountain communities, but these areas experienced catastrophic rainfall-triggered flooding and mudslides. Families in the west of NC are now grappling with the loss of their loved ones, homes, and, in some cases, entire communities. At the same time, tens of thousands are without access to clean drinking water, food, and electricity.
We are raising funds to meet the urgent needs of these families and communities in Western NC. Join us – your generosity will support individuals in their darkest moments when they need the care of a neighbor most.
