For Project 64, we are partnering with STAND (formerly Legs4Africa) for the third time to provide affordable physical and emotional rehabilitation to amputees in The Gambia. In the past, Mite's donor community has joined forces with STAND to repurpose prosthetic legs destined for landfills for thousands of amputees throughout Sub-Saharan Africa — helping them to walk again.

This year, our partner has come to us with a new barrier to accomplishing their mission: with only one rehabilitation center serving the entire country of The Gambia, rural amputees are left without the care they desperately need. The answer: we're going mobile, so they have mobility!

With your help we’re supporting STAND in deploying mobile rehabilitation clinics to provide essential care for amputees in two rural community hospitals: the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, Bansang, and Farafenni General Hospital, Farafenni. By bringing rehabilitation services directly to hard-to-reach areas, we eliminate the travel barriers and high costs that often prevent people with disabilities from accessing life-changing care.

These mobile clinics will deliver critical services, including prosthetic fittings, wound care, and physical therapy, to individuals who would otherwise have to travel hundreds of miles for treatment. Beyond helping them walk again, these services restore their independence, dignity, and ability to participate fully in their families and communities.
