Project 59: Be a Miracle Step - Pakistan
Partnering with MiracleFeet, an NGO championing the elimination of clubfoot using the Ponseti correction apparatus, we will support the critical shipment of foot braces to 400 affected children in Pakistan. With access to the devices, these children will be able to walk with less pain and move freely.
Founded in 2010, MiracleFeet has changed the lives of more than 84,000 children in 34 countries through over 350 clinics. They are the largest global organization dedicated to ending clubfoot for every child it affects – forever.
Clubfoot is a common congenital disability that causes the feet to turn inward and upward, resulting in a severe disability that makes walking painful and difficult. But it is correctable using the Ponseti method. This highly effective, low-cost, innovative medical intervention corrects clubfoot and restores full functionality in 95% of cases.
By partnering with local NGOs and Ministries of Health, MiracleFeet builds upon each country’s existing health infrastructure and local partners to create and support a nationwide network of clinics capable of delivering high-quality care to children with the condition. They are reducing barriers families typically face when accessing treatment for their children.
MiracleFeet trains medical professionals in the Ponseti method and educates local teams in program management and evaluation to create the expertise needed to manage local clubfoot programs. Clubfoot does not get better on its own; it will become worse with age, making it hard for the child to walk. By establishing early detection screening and referral pathways, MiracleFeet ensures families access treatment before a child’s first birthday, optimizing the likelihood of a successful outcome.
