Project 39: Cargo to Curriculum - Kya Sands, South Africa
We are partnering with Impact Africa again to convert a shipping container into an additional mobile and fully functional classroom within their school located at the Kya Sands squatters settlement in Johannesburg. An extra 50 preschoolers will be able to get a quality Christian education.
Impact Africa has an ingenious way of transforming old shipping containers into purpose-built classrooms that are fully portable and sustainable. By converting a shipping container into a classroom, we can provide a learning environment conducive to educating children and breaking the cycle of poverty in a country where it is estimated that 4.7 million people are illiterate. Impact Africa aims to set up these mobile schools across informal settlements throughout Southern Africa.
We target preschool and kindergarten aged children because research has found that an individual’s capacity to learn has already been established by the age of 4 years, and thus if children can access learning opportunities by this age, they have 60% more of a chance that they will not drop out of school later in life. We want these children to be inspired to beat the odds, get a quality Christian education in a stable and safe environment, and break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy.
For just $18,000, we can build a fully functional, sustainable, and safe classroom that will continue to educate South Africa’s future generations. We are reaching out to our giving community to support this project generously and provide refuge and hope to these children of changing their life trajectory with quality education. Help us reach our goal today!
