With Acres of Hope, we provided new mattresses and beds for more than 200 orphans and vulnerable children so they will have somewhere comforting to rest their heads every night. They no longer need to share beds or sleep on the ground which impaired their sleep and daily functioning.
Sleep is so important for a child’s development. It supports a healthier heart, and helps strengthen the immune system against germs and also increases children's attention span and improves their ability to learn.
Mite partnered with Acres of Hope, an organization that offers a hope-filled future for orphans and vulnerable children by equipping them with basic needs such as food, shelter, medical care, and education. We chose to work with Acres of Hope because they are a refuge and support for hundreds of vulnerable children in Nebbi, Uganda. Their goal is for children to mature and become productive, generous citizens who will pay it forward and be bright lights in the community.
Northern Uganda spent years being terrorized by the Lords Resistance Army and became the world's epicenter for HIV/AIDS. Thousands of children have lost one, if not both parents and their opportunities to obtain life's basic needs are sparse. Public education is limited, and the quality is poor. Daily children wake up before sunrise and walk miles and miles to fill up jugs with polluted water. Many go to bed on a dirt floor, under a grass roof, fighting hunger pains.
Now, it's our time to pay it forward and provide 200 bunk beds and mattresses for the orphans of Acres of Hope. With your help, hundreds of children will go to bed on a soft mattress under a sturdy roof with full bellies and happy hearts.
