Three infants are abandoned on the streets of Johannesburg every day due to poverty and shame. To address this, we teamed up with Impact Africa for their Baby Rescue program. They provide a baby drop box, kind caretakers, and an adoption program to place infants in loving homes.

Every day infants are discarded in drainage ditches, thrown into trash cans, or abandoned on the side of roads and left helpless against the elements. Why does such a thing happen? Is there anything that we can do about it?

According to experts, a child born in South Africa is at the highest risk of being killed during its first six days of life. This reality exists because of poverty, hopelessness, and shame. Mothers living in impoverished conditions, without hope of supporting themselves- never mind another human being, view the birth of their new baby as a burden which they are unequipped to handle. With no support network or resources to assist with the new responsibility, the only apparent solution is abandonment.

While this is a hard reality for us to grasp here in our world, the fact is that new mothers are making this choice every day in a world not too far away from our own. The highest potential known to exist on the planet earth, potential found in the life of a child, is lost because of a lack of hope and despair.

There is something that we can do! There are organizations like 

, which provide a support network for these mothers and their babies. There is a way to save the life of the child that would have been abandoned and lost...and you can help!

The program is called Baby Rescue, and it involves a drop box, sincere, and helpful caretakers, and an adoption program to place infants in loving homes. Project 19 - Baby Rescue - Johannesburg presents the Mite Giving Community with the opportunity to change lives by literally saving them from abandonment and death. Your donations to Project 19 will be used to support this program throughout the 2019-2020 year. Every baby saved during this year will be a life that your Mite helped save!

Project 19 Baby Rescue is Complete!

Behind each baby saved through Project 19 is a team of incredibly dedicated women who work towards advocating and caring for orphaned and abandoned babies. Part of this is celebrating and praying for each other in each season of life. Whether they are counseling a soon-to-be new momma, changing their 10th diaper of the day, providing postnatal care, or comforting a crying baby, they do it together as a team showing love each step of the way. Each day is different, and each day brings its own obstacles. Still, the Baby Rescue Team remains committed to being an advocate that will intervene on behalf of desperate young mothers and their precious babies to ensure their children's best future.

Incredible Staff at Baby Rescue Home

We are excited to announce the Impact Baby Home welcomed Baby Boy A and Baby L* this week! These babies will be taken care of and loved by the Impact Baby rescue team until they find their forever family.

COVID-19 has had a significant impact on impoverished communities around the world. This pandemic, in conjunction with the lock down in South Africa, has created an even more challenging environment for parents that are unable to care for their little ones. Impact Africa is witnessing a concerning rise in child abandonment rates.

New Home on the Way

We have an update! Brave baby L had their first operation of many to help fix a congenital disability. Baby L is currently recovering under the close care and supervision of Impact Africa's baby home staff. Impact Africa's baby home staff is built from a loving group of ladies committed to helping abandoned babies. We are so thankful to the surgeons and staff helping Baby L along the journey to health and wholeness. We thank our incredible community of givers who have gotten involved in Project 19- Baby Rescue!
