Project 16: World Shoe - Dominican Republic

Providing protective footwear helps fight against disease, deformity and even death due to foot-borne ailments. We joined Samaritan’s Feet in giving out more than 100 pairs of shoes to orphaned children and impoverished adults in Santo Domingo, so they can protect themselves from contracting foot-borne infections.

Join us on Project 16, World Shoe Distribution Dominican Republic, as we join Samaritan’s Feet and distribute the World Shoe program to children and adults who are at risk of contracting a range of foot-related diseases such as parasites along with bacterial and fungal infections and general injury. Let’s work together to provide people with freedom from foot-bourne disease.

All around the world people are affected by illness and injury because of a lack of proper footwear. The Who Health Organization estimates that 1.5 Billion people are infected with soil-transmitted diseases when prevention could be as simple as a pair of shoes!

Soil-transmitted diseases are caused by different species of parasitic worms. According to World Shoe, “because of the severity of these diseases and symptoms, individuals may not be able to safely work, go to school, travel to markets, or be involved in their community”.

The World Shoe program aims to eradicate the barefoot epidemic by providing anti-microbial shoes to those in need, “The World Shoe is a better, properly designed shoe that is biodegradable and protects the feet from injury, infections, and diseases. With an active, built-in anti-microbial agent, infections can be treated as it’s worn. It’s protective and breathable and removes the access point for parasitic activity and gives hope and opportunity to those who wear it.”
